Affectionately known as “AstronomyCourses” because that is the name of our Facebook page and our original site www.onlineastronomycourses.co.uk we have been delivering GCSE Astronomy by distance learning for some years.

We started our journey in 2009, right after the death of the founder’s hero, Sir Patrick Moore.
He wanted an academy which he could learn a new skill he wanted to develop, distance learning. Skills and talent are nothing without opportunity. OAS Academy was born.

The formal name of the organisation is the Online Astronomy Society Academy, but i guess AstronomyCourses has stuck.

The GCSE part of the academy began with a chance browse of the Nene Valley Astronomical Society Newsletter. We noticed in that that a Dr Johanna Jarvis offered her services tutoring GCSE Astronomy. So we approached her asking if she’d be interested in putting it online. The GCSE was born!
We were serving around 30 students a year to begin with working with one exam centre.
Sadly Dr Jarvis had to leave the operation for personal and business reasons, which was a loss. However we recovered by teaming up with Dr Nigel Marshall of Mickeldore Publishing and now have a nice team of tutors. Going from strength to strength.
We continue on.

Too young for the GCSE? why not take a look at our SpaceKidets site
